Our customer had already made significant investment in building online reporting capability. This additional dashboard was intended to study the use that was being made of the existing reports and systems. The reasoning was simple; there were so many questions that could not be answered easily. Examples like:
Can we justify further investments in online reporting?
Is the use of our products seasonal?
How many unique users do we have accessing the system?
We added additional features to the existing data warehouse to store user access. This is not perhaps as easy as it sounds as access can come from so many reporting systems such as online applications, OLAP cubes, SQL reporting services reports, connected Excel sheets, SharePoint and so forth.
